Dangerous prank targets drivers on U.S. 93

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office received two reports on back-to-back days of a group of youths who had tied a rope to a dumpster next to U.S. 93 South in Lakeside and were holding the rope taut across the highway in front of traffic. They also reportedly threw an egg at one vehicle.

A mailbox on Creston Road was blown up using an artillery shell-like firework. Another mailbox on Many Lakes Drive was blown up roughly four hours later.

A bag of cocaine was found on the steps next to a gallery on Electric Avenue in Bigfork.

Someone broke into a business on U.S. 2 East in Kalispell and stole a money bag out of a cash register. The building’s alarm was not set at the time.


A Sylvan Drive resident contacted the Kalispell Police Department to report youths shooting turkeys in the area with a BB gun. The same youths had been reported for the same activity in the same area the prior day.

An Eighth Avenue East resident reported someone may have opened his door after seeing the screen door open and then close. His wife later found a knife in a flower pot by the same door.

Officers transported a man to the emergency room for a mental health hold after a Third Avenue East resident reported the man was lying on the ground in his yard with a gray hoodie over his head.

A suspicious man carrying something in his arms was reported walking circles around a man’s car on Sixth Street East. The owner of the car said he believed the man was “on something” and “acting weird.” A witness reported the man had jumped out of a truck before approaching the car.

A pair of women were caught huffing aerosols in the parking lot of a department store on U.S. 2 East.

A fentanyl patch was stolen from a business on Crestline Avenue.


The Columbia Falls Police Department received a report of a woman not wearing anything above the waist walking on the north side of Ninth Street West.

A woman was issued two citations and released after officers responded to a report of two women fighting in an apartment on Seventh Street West. The manager reported having problems with the pair a couple of days ago.

Someone damaged a park sign, possibly with a firearm, leaving a large hole in it.

Someone shot a rental car with a BB gun on Ninth Street West.


The Whitefish Police Department received a fireworks complaint regarding a property on Creek View Drive.

Disorderly conduct was reported on Railway Street, Hospital Way and East Fourth Street.

A drunk pedestrian was reported on East Fourth Street.

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office is looking for information regarding a house that burned down on West Springcreek Road Saturday morning.

Someone set fire to the unoccupied historic structure, located just north of East Reserve Road, at approximately 2 a.m. The house, which was in disrepair, was fully engulfed before firefighters arrived and was completely destroyed.
