I got a note from the folks at the Stonerose Interpretive Center and Eocene Fossil Site, in Republic. Until July 8 they have a special exhibit on loan from the Burke Museum in Seattle.  The "Cruisin' the Washington Fossil Freeway" exhibit is a collaboration of art by renowned artist Ray Troll and paleontologist Kirk Johnson from the Denver Museum of Nature.

At Stonerose people can find 49 million year old plant and animal remains. On display there is an ancestor of the Salmon - Eosalmo that is 17 inches long and possibly the most complete specimen found in North America. I have visited the town of Republic many times while fishing at Curlew Lake and the San Poil and Kettle rivers.

I haven't been to this site, which is practically in the town of Republic.  This special exhibit would sure make me find the time to go there.  This would be something your family would really enjoy.  So if you're on a fishing trip to this area, don't miss this opportunity.  This is one of my wife and I's favorite places to go and I hope I can get there prior to July 8.
