Police find man sought in stabbing

COEUR d'ALENE - The North Idaho Violent Crimes Task Force located a transient wanted for allegedly stabbing another transient earlier this week, Coeur d'Alene police said.

James H. Kountz, 56, was taken into custody at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday. Police said he was located in the same wooded area where the stabbing occurred Monday, on the east side of U.S. 95 behind the Coeur d'Alene Target retail store.

Kountz had an outstanding warrant for attempted second-degree murder.

The victim in the case, James R. Hoglen, 42, originally of Reno, Nev., was in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries Wednesday night.

Motorists reported seeing a man stagger out of the densely wooded area, cross over the northbound lanes and collapse on the grassy divider in the middle of the highway.

The wooded area is sometimes inhabited with transient camps.
