Stewart's two short-handed goals lift Chiefs past Royals

VICTORIA, British Columbia - Liam Stewart had the first multi-goal game of his Western Hockey League career as the Spokane Chiefs scored the first five goals on the way to a 6-1 win over the Victoria Royals on Wednesday night in front of 4,833 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena.

Blake Gahl opened the scoring in the second period, Stewart followed with a short-handed goal and Brenden Kitchton added his 14th goal of the season late in the period to give Spokane a 3-0 lead.

Stewart scored another short-handed goal midway through the third and Mike Aviani scored less than two minutes later to give Spokane a 5-0 lead.

Victoria broke through on Steven Hodges 20th goal of the year, but Dominik Uher capped the scoring for Spokane with his 28th goal of the season.

Mac Engel had 24 saves for Spokane (34-22-4-3, 75 points), which travels to Prince George on Friday.
