Record run for Playhouse's "Rent"

It was a record run for "Rent" at the Lake City Playhouse.

The musical sold out all 12 shows during its three-week run in Coeur d'Alene. It was a record for consecutive sell outs, as well as fastest sell outs. Every show was sold out prior to doors opening each night.

"Fiddler on the Roof" remains No. 1 for ticket sales and attendance at the Lake City Playhouse, followed by "Urinetown," "Rent" and "Evita."

The Playhouse's light-heart comedy "Epic Proportions" runs through March 4.

Its main fundraiser, "South Pacific in Concert and Dinner," is set for March 9 at the Harding Center. Tickets are $35.

Wanted: A few good scripts

One of the Northwest's independent film and video entertainment societies, kNIFVES, is looking for a 10-page screenplay with an Inland Northwest theme that can be shot locally with a $5,000-$10,000 budget. Any genre - romance, comedy, horror - is acceptable.

The winning entry will receive prizes including $100 cash and a choice between Final Draft 8, the top-selling scriptwriting program, or Jungle Software's Gorilla 5-Film Production Program, software designed for the professional filmmaker.

Other prizes include Jungle Software's StoryO, a new story organization program; and entry into one of Final Draft's Insider View Webinar Series, where visitors participate in Q & A with industry professionals.

Although winning does not guarantee production, kNIFVES will seek funding to produce the winning screenplay.

The contest ends April 30.

CYT finalizes 2012-2013 season

Christian Youth Theater-North Idaho has finalized its 2012-2013 season. It includes Disney's "Beauty and the Beast," Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" and "Great American Tall Tales."

Each year, CYT-North Idaho produces three Broadway-style musicals whose cast is made up of students enrolled in CYT's after-school theater arts classes. Currently, CYT-North Idaho's winter 2012 production of "Annie" begins tonight.

Shows are chosen based on their overall appeal to families as well as for their educational value. CYT-North Idaho offers discounted tickets for 12 performances a year during the school week so teachers and students can experience live theater and learn at the same time.
