Whitefish Middle School students got a first look Tuesday morning at the new Steinway piano in the Whitefish Performing Arts Center. A special fund has been set up to purchase the 2003-model nine-foot concert and artist series piano, which will belong to the Whitefish School District. Purchased new, the piano could cost upwards of $138,000; the community will be able to buy the instrument for about $79,000. Don K Subaru, the Daily Inter Lake, the Lodge at Whitefish Lake and other local donors have made the down payment possible, but more fundraising will be needed. An upcoming concert by New Zealand jazz pianist Alan Broadbent will raise money for the piano. The Broadbent show starts at 8 p.m. March 10. Tickets are $20 to $35 and are available at www.whitefishgrand.com or www.alpinetheatreproject.org.
