Chiefs tripped in OT

PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia - Cody Carlson scored a power-play goal 18 seconds into overtime as the Prince George Cougars beat the Spokane Chiefs 4-3 in a Western Hockey League game in front of 1,822 at the CN Centre on Saturday.

Mitch Holmberg opened the scoring in the first period for Spokane on the power play for his 26th goal of the season. After Prince George tied it at 1 after the first, Dominik Uher scored on an assist by Marek Kalus.

Linden Springer and Chase Witala scored the next two goals for Prince George, but Corbin Baldwin's goal late in the third evened the score at 3.

Eric Williams had 24 saves for Spokane (35-22-5-3, 78 points), which has a two-point lead on Vancouver for fourth place in the Western Conference with seven games remaining.

Spokane hosts Kelowna on Wednesday.
