EPHRATA - A Moses Lake man is serving more than 26 years in prison for raping his sister.
Mario Noyola Jr., 33, pleaded guilty to assault in the first degree in Grant County Superior Court, according to court records.
Prosecutors originally charged him with rape in the first degree and incest in the first degree, according to court records. The charges were changed before Noyola pleaded guilty.
Noyola's criminal history started in 1993, and includes convictions for custodial assault, intimidating a public servant, assault in the third degree, theft in the second degree, controlled substance violations, malicious mischief in the second degree, burglary in the second degree, taking a motor vehicle without permission, assault in the second degree, assault in the first degree, possession of methamphetamine with the intent to manufacture or deliver, possession of cocaine, and conspiracy to deliver cocaine, according to court records.
When combined with his present convictions, Noyola faced a sentencing range of 20 years to 26 years and six months in prison, according to court records.
Grant County Superior Court Judge John Antosz followed the prosecutor's recommendation, sentencing Noyola to the maximum end of the sentencing range, according to court records.
Noyola went to his sister's home and knocked. When she opened the door, he told her he was locked out of his home, according to a Grant County sheriff's report. After the victim invited him in, Noyola pulled out a knife, telling the woman he had nothing to lose since he stabbed a person last week.
He forced the victim into a back bedroom and raped her, according to the police report.
Police tracked Noyola to a Craig Street residence, and when they told an occupant who they were looking for, Noyola attempted to escape from the rear of the residence, according to the police report. He spotted officers waiting outside, and went back into the residence.
An about five hour standoff between Noyola and officers followed. The Moses Lake Tactical Response Team was deployed, and officers attempted to use tear gas to get Noyola to exit the residence, according to the police report. Noyola exited the residence after speaking with a Moses Lake police officer.
Noyola blamed his actions on drugs, saying they caused him to hear voices and made unwanted thoughts come into his head, according to the police report.
