SPOKANE - Four Warriors scored in double figures as Almira/Coulee-Hartline (ACH) beat Sunnyside Christian 61-50 to claim third place at the 1B Girls State Tournament Saturday.

"I thought the girls played really well against Sunnyside," coach Mike Correia said. "We shot the ball well from the 3-point line (42 percent) and had a good balanced attack offensive attack, which we felt we needed to have because we were so evenly matched."

Kodi Noggles was the big gun for ACH with 17 points. She also hauled in seven rebounds. Kelsey Streeter and Madeline Isaak had 12 each and Allison Fox added 11.

The Warriors got out to a double-digit lead, 17-7, at the end of the first quarter.

ACH kept the offensive pressure cranked up in the second eight minutes of the contest as well as the Warriors out scored the Knights 20-14 to take a 37-21 lead at the break.

Sunnyside, not about to go away quietly, put 15 points on the board in the third quarter, and 14 in the fourth, to try and make a game of it. But it was too little too late as they were unable to close the gap and lost by 11.

Kodi really came out strong for us in the game," Correia said. And Kelsey had a great tournament, averaging double figures in all three games."

ACH found itself playing in the consolation bracket after dropping the second game of the tournament to eventual champions Colton High School 47-40 Friday night.

"Colton was the defending state champion, so we knew they were good," Correia said. "It's kind of a pick your poison type situation when you play them. You have to take away something to get what you want, but you also have to give up something in exchange. We held their top scorer under average, but they had another girl knock down 13 points who we weren't expecting to do much, and that was the difference in the game."

Although Correia and the team had their sites aimed higher than a third-place finish, he said the season was a success.

"All-in-all, we had a great year," Correia said. "It's kind of a relief now that the tournament is over, but is so much fun coaching such a great group of kids."

ACH is losing six seniors to graduation, five of them in the starting lineup, so the team has its work cutout if they want to be back on the big stage next year.

"We have a good core of girls coming back and some good kids coming in to the program," he said. "So we hope to be in the running again next year."
