ROYAL CITY - For the donation of non-perishable foods or money, you are invited to enjoy a hot dog lunch by CHS Harvest for Hunger at the city park on Friday, March 9, from 11 a.m-3:30 p.m.

"We're trading a barbecue for donations," said Deana Freeman of CHS Sun Basin Growers. "We'll be serving hot dogs, chips and pop."

CHS Harvest for Hunger has a goal of collecting money, food or crops the equivalent of two million meals for hungry families. CHS Sun Basin Growers is part of the campaign and will collect donations in Royal City/Mattawa, Quincy, Moses Lake, Bruce/Othello and Pasco.

"For every donation we collect, CHS Country Operations will also make a local contribution to help friends and neighbors," General Manager Ron Kopczynski said. "This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to multiply the impact of every donation."

Financial donations are encouraged because food banks can use their buying power to provide nutritious food at deeply discounted rates. Every dollar donated generates three and a half to seven meals, depending on the region.

"Hunger is a reality for many," Kopczynski said. "Our goal is within reach. So let's pull together and show how much the country cares."

CHS Sun Basin Growers will accept donations at any of its locations through March 16. Donations collected by CHS Sun Basin Growers will support families through the Second Harvest Inland Northwest Food Bank.
