Helen (Rademacher) Bator, 84, was welcomed by the Lord Wednesday February 29th, 2012 at her home, her loving husband of almost 62 years at her side. Helen was born in Yakima, WA on April 2nd, 1927 to Herb and Thelma Rademacher as the second of 7 children (Jean, John, Pete, Melba, Mary, and Sharon).
She was raised in Tieton, WA and graduated from Highland High School in 1945. She graduated with high honors from Washington State College (WSU) where she excelled in leadership, scholarship, and extramural involvement. She was an inducted member of Associated Students of the State College of Washington (ASSCW) and had many diverse interests including: field hockey, fencing, swimming, and ice skating. Her degree was Physical Education. While attending WSU, she met her husband Edward James Bator. Ed and Helen were united in marriage on August 19, 1950 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Yakima. Ed and Helen both went on to teach in the Moses Lake. In 1951, they entered the Columbia Basin Project Farm Lottery. Ed was recalled into the Korean War Conflict. Attending alone, Helen won first choice of farm land and received the "Golden Shovel Award" presented by the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce. They chose Farm Unit 113 on upper Crab Creek located north of Moses Lake. On Farm Unit 113 they homesteaded and began their family, living there until this day.
Helen retired from teaching physical education and typing classes and upon the birth of her sons, Vincent and Daniel. Helen was a faithful Christian with a heart that flowed abundantly with love and kindness for all those who knew her. She was happiest working outdoors on her farm and instilled this love of nature in her children and grandchildren. Her capacity to laugh, forgive, and seek optimism in every situation was a true testament to her fighter spirit and determination, which she carried through to the end. She will be forever remembered by her family and friends as a rare beauty, academic, and athlete. She supported the success and growth of all individuals. Very proud of her parents and siblings accomplishments.
