BUTTE - Southwestern A Champion Dillon heated up in the fourth quarter and downed Polson 48-40 in the first round of the Class A Girls Basketball State Tournament in Butte on Thursday afternoon.

Riley Kenney led the team with 18 points and Mariah Hamel added nine but Polson will move into a loser-out contest against Havre tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.

In the first quarter, Kenney hit a close jumper and Hamel hit a three-pointer to give Polson the 5-0 lead. Dillon would answer back with two field goals of their own and the stanza ended with the Lady Pirates leading 7-6.

It appeared that Polson was pulling away in the second, a period they outscored Dillon 15-9. Kenney ended up scoring nine points in the quarter and with less than three minutes to go in the half Polson had the 19-12 advantage. After a Dillon three-pointer, the Lady Pirates got a three-pointer of their own from Hamel and led 22-15 at halftime.

Dillon went on a 10-3 run in the third quarter and things were tied 25-25 going into the final period and that's when the Lady Beavers found their shooting edge. Dillon hit three treys in the first four minutes of the fourth and led 36-30 with 4:11 to go.

Polson couldn't make up the difference and fell 48-40, after Dillon made their last eight points from free throws.

Dillon hit five three pointers in the second half and also shot 47 percent from the field.
