EPHRATA - An Ephrata teen is accused of trying to rape a 17-year-old male classmate in an Ephrata motel room.
Prosecutors charged Robert D. Bentley, 18, with attempted rape in the first degree, assault in the second degree and unlawful imprisonment in Grant County Superior Court, according to court records.
Grant County Superior Court Judge John Antosz set Bentley's bail at $50,000.
Bentley left Sage Hills Alternative School with the victim. The two walked to a Basin Street motel, according to an Ephrata police report. In the motel room, Bentley reportedly asked the victim if he had kissed anyone then tried to kiss the boy.
When the victim refused, Bentley allegedly continued to make sexual advances toward him. The victim refused, and the two began struggling, according to the police report. Bentley allegedly forced the victim onto his back, and held a crutch to his throat, according to the police report. The victim claims he was able to get the crutch away from Bentley and did it a second time when another crutch used in the same manner.
Bentley allegedly then tried holding down the victim's head and attempted to rape him, but the victim was able to escape, according to the police report.
Police reported Bentley allegedly admitted to trying to kiss the boy, but when the victim refused, he claims did nothing else but wrestle with the victim.
