MOSES LAKE - Hard work and dedication are key for a successful season for a young Ephrata girls golf team in 2012.
The Tigers finished last season with an 8-1 league record, but lost five seniors to graduation, three of which participated at the regional tournament and two players who went to state.
"The team has a lot of inexperienced competition players, but a lot of players have golf experience," coach Heidi Burns said. "This experience and dedication will help them be a very successful team. I think several of my golfers will make it past districts if they want it and work hard."
Kendall Sage and Tressa Davis, two freshman will be counted on to help fill varsity openings on the team.
"They have the experience and dedication to be great golfers," Burns said. "Zoe Tanler is a returning sophomore JV player who has been practicing and working hard to improve her game. I think she is also going to be a great asset to the varsity team."
The team weakness, Burns said, is inexperience in competition play. It's strength she said is the girls desire to be successful.
"They are willing to work hard and do what it takes to come out on top this season," she said.
The stiffest competitors in the CWAC Burns said are Othello and Selah who have a lot of returning golfers.
The Lady Tigers hit the links Friday when they host Ellensburg at the Lakeview Golf and Country Club.
