Watson, Colbert, Wenstrom shine in all-star games

MULLAN - Post Falls senior Marcus Colbert scored 21 points and was named MVP as the West boys beat the East 103-94 in the 26th annual District 1 All-Star basketball game in front of a capacity crowd at the Mullan Pavilion on Friday night.

Coeur d'Alene High senior Deon Watson made 9 of 15 attempts to win the 3-point contest at halftime, then won the slam dunk contest. Viking teammate Ty Higbie added 17 points for the East.

Lakeside's Joseph Chapman scored 19 for the West.

MULLAN - Timberlake senior Kara Wenstrom scored 10 points to earn MVP honors as East All-Stars beat the West in the 26th annual District 1 All-Star Game at the Mullan Pavilion.

Lakeland senior Cieana Close scored 10 points for the East.

Rai Franklin of Post Falls led the West with a game-high 12 points.

Celeste Komanec of Clark Fork made 13 of 20 attempts to win the 3-point contest at halftime.

OROFINO - J.D. Page went 2 for 3 and drove in two runs, and got the win on the mound for the visiting Tigers in their season opener.

Page struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings. Trevor Masterson also drove in two runs for Timberlake.

Timberlake coach Bill Rider said his players enjoyed being outside and playing in temperatures in the mid-60s.

"They do have green grass down here," Rider said. "My kids were smiling ear to ear - they didn't care what happened in the game."

The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader today at 10 a.m.
