Chiefs rally in 3rd period past Ice

SPOKANE - Darren Kramer and Colin Valcourt scored less than a minute apart in the third period as the Spokane Chiefs rallied to beat the Kootenay Ice 3-2 in a Western Hockey League game in front of 8,783 at the Spokane Arena on Saturday.

After Kootenay opened a 1-0 lead after the first period, Marek Kalus tied the game for Spokane on a power-play goal with 12 seconds remaining in the second.

Valcourt's goal with under five minutes remaining gave Spokane the lead for good as the Chiefs outshot the Ice 14-10 in the third.

Spokane outshot Kootenay 39-22 for the game and remains tied with Vancouver, which beat Kamloops 3-2 on Saturday, for the fourth and final home-ice advantage seed in the Western Conference playoffs.

Spokane plays the Seattle Thunderbirds at Kent, Wash., on Tuesday.
