POLSON — A 26-year-old Elmo woman who admitted to stealing a $1,800 unemployment check from a man who was in the hospital at the time of a theft was given a deferred sentence of two years in Lake County District Court last Thursday.

According to Lake County Sheriff Office documents, Jamie Dickson obtained control over a Montana unemployment check after sharing a P.O. box with the victim, who was in the hospital when she took the check. Dickson lives in the same residence as the victim and admitted to authorities that she deposited the check into her account by forging signatures.

The check was worth $1,843 and the victim told authorities that he did not endorse the check or authorize it to be deposited in any other account.

Dickson faced a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail with a fine of $50,000.
