Pickard lifts Thunderbirds past Chiefs

KENT, Wash. - Calvin Pickard stopped 39 shots for Seattle as the Thunderbirds defeated the Spokane Chiefs 3-1 in a Western Hockey League game in front of 4,772 at the ShoWare Center on Tuesday night.
After a scoreless first period, Seattle notched a pair of power-play goals to take a 2-0 lead after the second.
Steven Kuhn's 13th goal of the season pulled Spokane within 3-1 midway through the third.
Spokane (36-24-5-4, 81 points), currently two points out of the final home-ice seed in the Western Conference playoffs, hosts Kamloops tonight at 7:05 at the Spokane Arena.
