Softball sign-ups
The Columbia Falls Youth Softball Association will take late softball registrations if roster size allows through March 19. A $10 late fee applies. Forms can be found online at www.wildkatsoftball.org. A coaches meeting will be held at the Glacier Discovery Center on Monday, March 26, at 7 p.m. Practices will begin the week of April 9. Field maintenance day will take place at the Columbia Falls High School fields on Sunday, April 15, from noon to 4 p.m. Volunteers are asked to bring rakes, gloves and wheelbarrows. Anyone with softball items to donate and/or recycle can drop them off at All About Memories, next to Gil’s Furniture on Highway 40. Baseball sign-ups
Only two weeks remain to sign up for the 2012 baseball season. Sign-up forms can be found at schools or online at http://cfbb.baberuthonline.com or done at Glacier Gateway Elementary School from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Sign-ups must be postmarked by March 23. Skills assessments will be held at Glacier Gateway on Sunday, March 25, with the Minor Division from 1 to 3 p.m. and the Major Division from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Deadline to sponsor a team or banner is March 25. Soccer academy
The Montana Flathead Rapids has teamed up with the Glacier United Soccer Club to host its third annual eight-week youth soccer academy on April 17 through June 5. Training sessions will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Smith Fields in Whitefish. Registration deadline is April 6.

Supporters for construction of a new bike and pedestrian trail from Coram to West Glacier will meet at the Heavens Peak Lodge and Resort, 12130 U.S. 2, in West Glacier, on Monday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m.
Bill requires verification before issuing driver's licenses
A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.
Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.
Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
