MOSES LAKE - Reports that a man was impersonating an officer and attempting to pull people over across Grant County could not be substantiated.

On Tuesday at about 9:15 a.m., the Adams County Sheriff's Office was reportedly attempting to intercept a dark green or dark blue Dodge Durango equipped with green lights, according to a Grant County dispatch report.

The report listed the driver as a six-foot-tall white male who was clean-shaven and wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans, and stated the man "is stopping vehicles in Adams County and identifying himself as law enforcement."

Online social networking sites were buzzing about the incident throughout the day, interest apparently stemming from one woman's first hand account on Facebook.

"There is a fake cop driving around Moses Lake, Warden and Othello and he's driving a Dodge Durango and the lights are green," the post reads. "This guy pulled me over this morning and assaulted me and I had a chance to get away and report it to the police they are looking for him so ladies be careful."

One other person posted that they too saw the Durango while on their way to work Tuesday morning.

Washington State Patrol Sgt. Scott Martin said to his knowledge, the Adams County Sheriff's Office stopped a dark blue Dodge Durango matching the description on state Route 17 near Warden at about 8:45 a.m., but the victim was unable to identify the driver as the same person who had pulled her over earlier in the day.

A representative of the Adams County Sheriff's Office referred the matter to the Grant County Sheriff's Office when asked about the incidents, saying they were reported to have taken place in Grant County.

"All I can tell you is the incident occurred in Grant County and no assault took place," she said.

Ken Jones with the Grant County Sheriff's Office said his agency did hear about the alleged incidents but "no valid contact" was made with any complainant or suspect.
