LEAVENWORTH - Come rain, snow or hail, the U.S. Mail will be delivered. So says the postal mantra. But that isn't a universal saying for outdoor sports. especially in the game of tennis.

And that's just what Quincy and Cascade found to be true as the non-league match between the Jacks and the Kodiaks was delayed and then shortened Tuesday as players were pelted with hail.

"It really started coming down hard as were taking the courts," coach Alan Rasmussen said. "But we were able to restart about an hour later, but had to play pro sets because it was getting late."

The Jacks No. 1 singles player Samuel Gregg got things started off on the right foot for Quincy as he defeated Skyler Elser, 8-6. But Cascade took the next two matches  as Robin Dittrich beat the Jacks No. 2 singles Levi Jimenez 8-0, and James Bensch, Quincy's No. 3 singles dropped his match (1-8) to Karlson Schyler.

The Jacks bounced back with a split in the double matches as the No. 1 team of Sonny Fregoso and Juan Mendoza defeated Macro Hernandez and Michael Olmstead 8-3. The Kodiaks No. 2 doubles team of Rollie Ronish III and Carson Hill defeated Austin Karstetter and Nick Ganas 8-3.

"I thought the guys played well," Rasmussen said. "Our top three guys graduated last year so we have a lot of new people on the team this year."

The girls results weren't any better than the boys in the winter like conditions as they lost three of their five matches against Cascade as well.

The Jacks No. 1 singles player Ciara Rasmussen lost to Noelle Parton, 6-8, but the No. 2 singles Sara Rigby beat Cascade's Emily Vincent 8-6 to even things up.

The Kodiaks No. 3 singles player Emma Eastep downed Quincy's Ashley Breeden 8-2 to round out the competition.

Sara Horning and Alex Fletcher fought back to take the No. 1 doubles match 8-5 over Robin Thaemert and Mekense Whaley.  But Quincy's No. 2 doubles team of Katherine Ayala and Autumn Willms lost to Antonia Valenzuela and Kendra Hixembaugh 8-3 in the final match of the day.

"We have a young team this year," Rasmussen said. "So it was nice to be able to play a team with the same skill levels."

The Jack are moving into the Caribou Trail League next season so their non-league matches are against Cascade, Chelan and Cashmere this season.

Quincy is back on the court today when they travel to Ellensburg to take on the Bulldogs.
