Loss secures 5th seed for Chiefs

SPOKANE - Burke Gallimore scored the game-winning goal with just under five minutes remaining to move the Seattle Thunderbirds past Spokane 4-3 in the Chiefs' regular-season home finale in front of 9,103 in a Western Hockey League game at the Spokane Arena.

Spokane (37-25-5-4, 83 points) travels to Tri-City tonight to conclude the regular season. In other WHL action, Vancouver beat Kelowna 5-4 in overtime to clinch the fourth seed and gain home-ice advantage over Spokane in their Western Conference playoff series starting next Friday.

After Seattle jumped out to a 1-0 lead, Marek Kalus scored his 20th goal of the season for Spokane to tie it at 1 after the first period.

Blake Gal scored his 15th goal of the season on the power-play, but Seth Swenson tied it again with just under 10 minutes remaining in the second.

Dylan Walchuck scored his ninth goal of the season for Spokane, but a goal by Colin Jacobs evened the score at 3 after the second.
