COEUR d'ALENE - It was just like old times on Saturday at Rolly Williams Court during the ninth annual Idaho High School All-Star games.

But once the final buzzer sounded, it was the South that earned bragging rights over the North with a 119-114 win in the boys contest and 106-78 win in the girls game.

In the boys game, Boise State-bound Joey Nebeker of Melba High scored 20 points for the South as they made 22 3-pointers in the win, 16 coming in the first half.

Montana State-bound Marcus Colbert scored a game-high 30 points for the North.

Wood River and Utah State signee Haylee Thompson scored a game-high 28 points in the girls game to lead the South past the North.

It marks the first time since 2008 the South has swept the North, after losing both games the previous three years.

Boys: The South opened a 70-48 halftime lead on the heels of 15 points by Nebeker, all from beyond the 3-point line.

"Deon (Watson) and I talked a little about getting it going in the second half," Colbert said of the deficit. "We got within two, but just couldn't get it done. They barely missed. They made a lot of shots. Seventy points at halftime is tough to come back from. "

Colbert will join former Post Falls High standout Shawn Reid in Bozeman next season.

"I'm excited," Colbert said. "I can't wait to get there and start summer classes."

Before the start of the boys game, Coeur d'Alene's Deon Watson won the slam dunk contest, with the winning dunk coming as he jumped over 6-foot-3 Post Falls senior Luke Thoreson. Thoreson attempted the same dunk over Colbert during the first round of the contest, but was unsuccessful.

“I’d missed three times, so I told Deon to do it and he’d win the contest,” Thoreson said.

“I went to Luke and said ‘Let me show you how it’s done,’” Watson said. “This was just like old times. It was a pretty fun game. It was a fun experience.”

Watson finished with 19 points for the North.

Ryker Pierce of Madison added 19 and Ben Tucakovic of Borah had 18 points for the South, which now leads the series 5-4.
