The Youth Dynamics dinner and auction Saturday featured artwork by local artists.

MOSES LAKE - The art on display Saturday wasn't just for viewing.

Paintings, steel sculptures and blown glass were auctioned off to benefit Youth Dynamics, an organization dedicated to helping kids live fulfilling lives and develop their spirituality.

"Not everybody has money to donate, but a lot of people have gifts that they can donate," said Youth Dynamics Director Dave Oliver.

Oliver himself donated a steel sculpture for the night's live auction.

Meriel Price came to support Youth Dynamics' mission. She has come to many of the organization's past fundraisers, she said.

"I care a lot about young people and what is available to them to keep them on the straight and narrow," she said.

A friend of Oliver's, Price gets to hear first-hand stories about the way Youth Dynamics impacts kids' lives.

"I just applaud (Oliver) for what he does," she said.

For Dylon Voss, Danual Surface and Blake Parker, three of the youth that utilize Youth Dynamics' services, the organization offers fun activities and spiritual growth.

Youth Dynamics is a spiritual place and helps youth develop a relationship with God, said Surface. It also helps keep kids out of trouble, added Voss.

The organization holds Monday night meetings and offers hiking and biking trips. While all three have attended the Monday activities, they haven't yet gone on trips out of town.

"If there's a chance, I would," said Voss. "I would go do an activity. It gets me out of the house."

But so does coming to Youth Dynamics on Mondays - in addition to playing pool and air hockey, the kids pray together and watch spiritual videos.

Since he got involved in Youth Dynamics, Surface has started attending First Baptist Church in Moses Lake. He also attends the youth group there on Wednesdays.

They're impressed with the example Oliver has set for them.

"He'll help anyone do anything," said Surface.

"Dave has pretty much devoted his life to changing kids, keeping kids on the right track," said Parker.
