MOSES LAKE - Big Bend Community College (BBCC) improved its record to 11-1 overall in the NWAACC conference with four wins over non-league opponent Vancouver Island last weekend.

The Vikings are 4-0 in league play and are tied for first place with Yakima Valley College in the East Region.

BBCC and Vancouver faced each other Friday in doubleheader action on the Vikings home field.  Game one saw the home team win big, 12-3.

Neither team produced a run until the bottom of the third when the Vikings pushed five across the plate. Shortstop Levi Lively was the big stick for BBCC who hit a bases clearing triple to drive in three runs.

Vancouver got a run back in the top of the fourth and two in the top of the sixth inning to close the gap to 5-3. The Vikings responded with four runs off three hits in the bottom of the sixth to increase their lead to 9-3. Vancouver was held off the board in the last three innings of the contest, but BBCC added three more runs to win going away.

Lively had four hits in five plate appearances and four RBI. Left fielder Doss Barbarick was 3-for-5 and scored two runs. Danny Greenway went six innings for BBCC, giving up five hits and striking out three batters to record the win. Tyler Schaffer pitched three innings for the save.

Game two on Friday was pitchers dual as the 12 strikeouts were recorded between the two teams. The Vikings Cody Johns rang up 7, and Vancouver's Reiley Grose had five in the seven inning game.

Goose eggs filled the scoreboard until BBCC pushed across three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The two teams went at it again Saturday with another twin bill. The Vikings won both games, 6-4 and 7-5. But the victories didn't come as easy as the two on Friday.

Game one

Vancouver got out to a 3-0 advantage, scoring one run in the first, one in the second and one in the top of the fourth. The lead held up until BBCC tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. Ricco Moreno doubled in Hiroki Koyama, Bryce Todd singled in Moreno, and then scored off a single by Kailen Bickler.

Vancouver failed to score in the top of the eighth, but the Vikings put three more runs on the board in their half of the inning to go up 6-3. Moreno hit his second double of the game to score Koyama. Todd singled and Moreno scored off an error by Vancouver's second baseman for the second run. Todd scored the third run of the inning.

Vancouver got a run back in the top of the ninth to get within two, 6-4, but it wasn't enough to stave off BBCC. Matt Barton was the winning pitcher for the Vikings. Cody Vandever went six innings for BBCC and Syd Hall got the save.

BBCC 7

Vancouver 5

The second game on Saturday saw seven pitchers take the mound between the teams.

The game was scoreless through the first two and a half innings until the Vikings John Schmedding reached home to put BBCC up 1-0. Vancouver answered back with three runs in the top of the fourth and one in the top of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.

BBCC pushed two runs across the plate in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 4-3.

Vancouver put one more run on the board in the top of the sixth, but the Vikings, not to be outdone, rang up four in their half of the inning to reclaim the lead, 7-5. Neither team scored a run over the last three innings.

Tyler Shaffer recorded the win for BBCC, and Hall was credited with the save.

The Vikings are back on the diamond this weekend when they host a four game series against Green River. The first game is at noon on Saturday.
