Knights roll, sweep LaSalle in twin bill action

ROYAL CITY - Taking advantage of LaSalle's youthfulness, Royal High swept a non-league fastpitch doubleheader, 20-5 and 13-7, at LaSalle on Saturday.
"Their program is one that is in a building phase. They are extremely young," Royal coach Pete Christensen said.
The difference in experience showed immediately. Gladys Meza started the game with a walk and made it all the way to third on a grounder by Lindsey Christensen that was botched in the infield.
Meza and Christensen scored with benefit of a hit as LaSalle threw the ball wildly around the diamond.
"Our girls played well," Christensen said. "The starters had no errors for both games. And the pitching was excellent with only five walks between the two games."
Haley Delgado pitched the majority of both games and worked the strike zone well. She gave up only one walk in the first game and three in the second.
Seila Jenks pitched two innings of the first game and did well. It was her first game in the circle this year.
"She has improved a lot over the past year," Christensen said.
Jenks was a leader on offense too. She batted 6-for-10.
Stefhany Guadarrama went a clean 5-for-5 with a home run, a triple and a pair of doubles. Leadoff hitter Gladys Meza was on base every time but once. She went 4-for-8 with two walks and a fielder's choice, scoring seven times. And Lanea Clouse went 5-for-7 for the day.
"Overall it was a great day to see the improvement we have made as well as areas that need more work," Christensen said.
"Because of the slow velocity of their pitching we were able to get a lot of players on the bases, allowing us to work on our base running skills."
