EPHRATA -The Tigers boys and girls tennis teams were victorious over the Greyhounds last night, taking all singles and doubles matches. The wins improve both team records to 1-0 in league play and 2-1 overall.

Hunter Sears, Ephrata's No. 1 singes beat Stevan Ramirez in two sets 6-1, 6-3. The No. 2 singles player Michael Bosnar won by forfeit. In doubles action it was the Tigers No. 1 team of Michael McDonnell and Jordan Brzeny downing Grandview's Abel Pasillas and Chris Galvan 6-2, 6-4. The No. 2 doubles Calvin Callahan and Mauricio Contreras had an easy time with the Greyhounds Jose Ramos and Fernando Serna, beating them in two sets 6-0, 6-1. And Ephrata's No. 3 doubles team of Matt Jones and Stenn Monson defeated Joel Pulido and Fernando Lujan in two sets 6-0, 6-1.

"Overall, the boys all had solid matches," coach Missy Beierman said. "It was good to see several of the players implement things we have been practicing.  But they will need to continue to improve on their serving and net play if they want to be competitive with the rest of the league."

The girls team was just as successful as the boys as they also dominated play over their opponents.

Bianca Schley, the Tigers No. 1 singles player defeated Hannah Grow in two sets, 6-0, 6-1. The No. 2 singles Tiana Schmitz won by forfeit. Ephrata's No. 1 doubles team of Naomi Kooistra and Tessa Ratigan went the distance to beat Sadie Wyatt and Victoria Chambers in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5. Kim Beck and Aubrey Denly, the No. 2 doubles turned back Karissa Carpenter and Brianna Moreno 6-3,6-4, and the No. 3 doubles Allison Pheasant and Yesenia Rodriguez shutout Esmeralda Jacobo and Monse Oropeza 6-0, 6-0 to finish out the days action.

"Naomi and Tessa had a long match at the No. 1 doubles (2 hours) with a lot of long cross-court rallies," Beierman said. 'It was nice to see them find a way to win.  Bianca was able to stroke the ball well in her first victory at No. 1 singles.  And Yesenia and Allison overpowered their opponent at the No.3 doubles with solid net play and good service games."

Ephrata's back on the court Friday when the Tigers head in to Wolves country to match up with Wapato. Their next home match is Saturday against Tonasket at 11 am.
