Nearly 200 young skiers will take to Whitefish Ski Resort this weekend, competing in the USSA Northern Division Youth Ski League Championship.
The three-day, season-ending event begins today at Ed’s Run. The racers, ages 7-13, will compete in three different alpine events. Today begins with the giant slalom, with the first of two runs starting at 9:30 a.m. The racers will have a short break between runs to examine the new course and will begin the second run at 12:30.
Two runs of slalom will be held Saturday and the event will end Sunday with a kombi run, a combination of the first two events. Awards will be handed out after each day as well as overall awards at the end of the event.
Locally, there are 26 skiers that will be competing from the Whitefish team. Colter Upton, Gardner Dominick, Marina Kramer and Cameron Welch have all finished on the podium this season. Six others have finished in the top 10.
