EPHRATA - It was a good day for Moses Lake boys track Saturday as the Chiefs finished sixth out of 21 teams at the Ray Cross Invite in Ephrata .

The top performances for Moses Lake were turned in by juniors Lowell Kirkwood who took third place in the 800 meters with a time of  2.05, and Cameron Law who cleared 12' 6'' to finish third in the pole vault event.

Long jumper Justyn Simmions finished third with a jump of 20'2", and freshman Parker Johnson took fifth place in the 100 meters with a time of 11.48

"This was the second meet for some of these kids this weekend and I was real proud of them," coach Kevin Whittall said. "It was exciting to watch them compete so early in the year and come out with some respectable times."

Other performances of note include a fifth place finish by freshman Justin Johnson (10:22) in the 3200 meter run, and a sixth place finish in the triple jump by Jared Crowell with a leap of 39'1".

Senior Cliff Phillips cleared 5' 8" in the high jump, which was good enough for seventh place.

Sophomore Brooks Milbrandt finished seventh in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.06.

"Coach Ransom and coach Carpentar (the sprint and middle distance coaches) put a lot of time in on the track with these kids this week," Whittall said. "Some of our kids such as Brooks was put in the last minute in the 200 and he came out with a ribbon.  I think this meet was positive for the Chiefs because it shows how much speed and ability they really have.
