Chiefs cut Vancouver lead to 2-1

SPOKANE - Eric Williams had 26 saves for Spokane as the Chiefs defeated the Vancouver Giants 3-2 in Game 3 of the Western Hockey League playoffs Tuesday night in front of 3,919 at the Spokane Arena.

Spokane's win trimmed Vancouver's lead to 2-1 in the best-of-7 series.

Spokane took its first lead of the series on a goal by Reid Gow 3:48 into the first period. Blake Gal scored on an assist from Todd Fiddler to give Spokane a 2-0 lead after the first.

Cain Franson scored his fourth goal of the series for Vancouver to pull the Giants to within a 2-1 deficit after the second.

Vancouver had the chance to tie the game midway through the third period, but a penalty shot by Jordan Martinook was denied by Williams.

Spokane got the eventual game winner on a shot by Corey Baldwin from the left point with under five minutes remaining.

Gal finished with a goal and an assist and Fiddler had two assists for Spokane.

Game 4 is tonight at the Spokane Arena at 7:05.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Chiefs announced that defenseman Brenden Kichton will miss the rest of the postseason after suffering a broken jaw in Game 1 after being struck with a puck.
