BASEBALL

Viking baseball intensity camp: The Coeur d'Alene High School coaching staff and players is putting on their annual skills camp for players ages 12-14 on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Coeur d'Alene High baseball field.

Players are asked to be indoor shoes, cleats, glove, bat and batting gloves. Catchers should bring their gear and any other items essential to baseball.

Cost of the camp is $50, which includes a camp T-shirt.

SELECT SOCCER

Coeur d'Alene Sting under-14 girls gold: The Sting finished third in their division at the Las Vegas College Showcase Tournament last weekend.

In the first game on Friday the Sting lost 1-0 to So. Cal. Infinity 97. The Sting then beat Players FC of Nevada 1-0, with the goal scored by Julia McCaw.

On Saturday, the Sting beat the West Coast FC 2-1. Magen Daniels and Caitlin Barber scored the goals. In the last game against Select Cities FC Avalanche, Kelsi Grinde, Sydney Quimby and Cydney Roop each scored in a 3-0 win.

Goalkeepers Julia Roach and Sami Lane teamed to allow just two goals in the tournament.

Sting U15 girls gold (Hogan): The Sting lost 3-0 to Tynecastle FC GU15 Saprissa last Saturday in the Puget Sound Premier League.

On Sunday, the Sting fell 2-1 to the RV Slammers G96 Orange.

Lakeland Nighthawks U13 boys: The Nighthawks beat the VYSA Moores 2-1 in District 6 Umbro League play March 17 at Rotary Field in Rathdrum.

Brandon Lycan scored both goals, with Jerrich Banks-Dunn adding an assist.

AAU BASKETBALL

The North Idaho Storm boys AAU basketball club will host the second of several tryouts for next season's team. Boys currently in the third grade may try out. This is a competitive AAU team, so previous Park & Rec or YMCA team experience is required.

Tryouts will be held this Sunday at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d'Alene. The church is loacted and 5th St. and Reid Avenue. The gym entrance is off the rear parking lot.

SKIING

The Schweitzer Alpine Racing School team defended its title at the Emerald Empire Youth Ski League championships March 10-11 at Mt. Spokane led by Jace Bailey, who won the slalom and giant slalom and captured the overall league high point award.

Contributing in the J4 class slalom events were Alexi Panos, 5th, Bailey Swoboda, 6th and Lauren Trueblood, 7th.

The wet snow conditions were described as brutal, and all three had spectacular crash-outs in the giant slalom.

In the J6 class Demetri Panos finished 4th in slalom and 3rd in giant slalom. Kinsey Koening from Post Falls, competing in her first race, placed 4th in slalom and 3rd in giant slalom.

The regional Buddy Werner Championships, a J4-J5 level race, was scheduled for March 23-25 at Schweitzer Mountain Resort. Jace, Alexi, Lauren, and Bailey all qualified.
