Jordan Hooper warms up in the on deck circle in the bottom of the second inning.

MOSES LAKE - The Wildcats strolled into Moses Lake yesterday looking to steal a road win from the Chiefs. But the home team had another thing in mind as they sent Eastmont sent home with a 6-3 loss.

The Wildcats put the first run on the board in their initial at bat to take an early 1-0 lead. Moses Lake answered back with an RBI single by Jordan Hooper in the bottom of the inning to tie the game 1-1.

Eastmont regained the lead with a run in the top of the second, but it didn't last long as the Chiefs brought four runs across the plate in their half of the inning to take their first lead of the contest, 4-2. Devin Juarez had two RBI for Moses Lake with a two-run blooper to right center field.

The Wildcats failed to score in the top of the third, but the Chiefs added another run in the bottom of the inning after Mason Mathews tripled and scored off a single by Colton Kelly to extend the lead to 5-2.

Neither team scored in the fourth and fifth innings. Moses Lake got an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Hooper led off with a double and scored off an error by Eastmont.

The Wildcats threatened with a run in the top of the seventh and had two men on base with one out, but hit into an inning ending double play to give the Chiefs the win.

"I thought the guys played well for the most part," coach Quintz Whitaker said. "We did some things better today than last week, but we still need to shore up our defense and throw more strikes."

The win over Eastmont improves Moses Lake to 4-3 in non-league action.

The Chiefs are back on the diamond Friday when they travel to Richland to take on the Bombers in the first league game of the season.

"Richland has been one of the top teams in the state the past nine or 10 years," Whitaker said. "We looking forward to the challenge."
