Dan K. Toya, a resident of Moses Lake since the mid 1950s, passed away December 23, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Moses Lake Alliance Church, 1100 N. Grape Drive, with Pastor Jody Bowser officiating. Dan was born in Oregon City, Oregon on December 17, 1947 to Fred and Kimi Toya. After graduating from Moses Lake High School in 1966 and Big Bend Community College in 1968, Dan went on to earn a B.S. from WSU in 1970 and an M.S. from Oregon State University in 1973. He worked at Brotherton Seed Company for several years. Dan and his first wife, Louella, married in 1979 and returned to the Moses Lake area in 1984 to be closer to family. On November 1, 2003, Dan and Hazel were married, and together they enjoyed attending plays and concerts. In their eight years together, Dan and Hazel traveled to Hawaii, Europe, Japan, and other locations in North America, which Dan enjoyed documenting in his photo albums. Dan also enjoyed fishing and working in his garden; he was, for many years, a familiar sight at the Farmer's Market.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Fred Toya. He is survived by his wife, Hazel; mother, Kimi; brother, Rollin; nephew, Martin with wife Lindsay; niece, Heather with husband Joseph; 2 great-nieces, Ashtyn and Avery; stepchildren Doug with wife Joyce, Wayne with wife Brenda, and Holly; and great-grandchildren Rachel, Hannah, and Joel. Dan will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Dan's memory to the Alliance Church of Moses Lake building fund at 1100 N. Grape Drive, Moses Lake, WA 98837.
