ROYAL CITY - A school construction bond was not the primary discussion at the March 21 meeting of the Community Communication Committee, according to Royal School District superintendent Rose Search.

The key discussion, Search said, was about the most effective ways to communicate schools news. She expects bond discussion to pick up after last night's school board meeting, when the board was expected to take up the issue.

Royal schools are crowded, and student enrollment keeps growing. The district has purchased two portable buildings of two classrooms each for next fall.

Total cost of the buildings, including site work and siting, will be about $300,000. One will be used at the elementary school, the other at the middle school.

Search believes more portables will be needed in the near future if a brick and mortar program is not adopted. She hopes this year's portables are only a temporary fix.

"We need to start planning now," she said.

Meanwhile, the CCC is looking for new ways to be ready to communicate the need. So far it has "Good News" postcards, pens, magnets, a SummerFest booth and a website.
