Glacier National Park recently surpassed the 100,000 “likes” mark with its Facebook page, making it one of the most popular Facebook pages in the National Park Service.

In comparison, Yellowstone National Park’s Facebook page has about 32,000 likes and Yosemite National Park has about 46,000. The National Park Service’s Facebook site has about 127,000 likes, while the Statue of Liberty has more than 140,000 likes.

The 100,000th like came three years to the day after Glacier began its Facebook page, said Park webmaster Bill Hayden.

A “like” is when a Facebook user gives a page their approval. Once a page is liked, the user receives automatic updates of that page as well.

The 100,000th person is Jared, of Huntsville, Ala. — the Park didn’t release his last name. The Glacier Association is sending him a few gifts for his lucky click — a stuffed mountain goat and a coffee table book.

Jared said he hopes to visit the Park at some point — he’s never been there.

Glacier Park updates its Facebook site frequently with photos and fun quizzes about animal life and history of the Park. Since plowing of the Going-to-the-Sun Road began, the Park frequently posts photos and progress of the plows.

The Park also uses Facebook, Twitter and Flickr as well as its Web site to dole out information on the Park. The Park’s webcams, for example, draw millions of visitors each year. Glacier Park’s Facebook page is www.facebook.com/GlacierNationalPark.
