The Columbia Falls softball team had a good weekend at the Frenchtown tournament April 28, downing Corvallis 4-1 and Hamilton 12-5.

Niki Birky hit two home runs on the day, and Shaun Rowe had one. Rowe batted .600 over the two games with two walks.

Freshman pitcher Ashley Trueblood gave up seven hits against the Blue Devils and scattered 10 hits against the Lady Broncs. Catie King pitched in relief.

“Ashley pitched well,” coach Dave Kehr said. “She went a lot of innings and did a nice job.”

Ciarra Holm also had a great weekend, with four hits over two games and a triple against Corvallis. The Wildkats also played well defensively, with just one error in each game.

“They played solid defense,” Kehr said.

The Kats have their hands full this week. They face Whitefish at home Friday — a game they should win — but they travel to Frenchtown on Saturday to face the undefeated Broncs.

“We just need to put the ball in play and make them play some defense,” Kehr said. “See if we can run a little.”

The Whitefish game starts at 5:30 p.m.
