ELLENSBURG - The Chiefs track team had one of its most productive outings of the season at the Keith Jewett Invite in Ellensburg April 27 and 28.

The girls finished first out of 14 teams with a score of 148.5. Ellensburg was second with 102 team points.

The boys took fourth place with 55 points. Prosser finished first with 117.

Girls

The girls took top honors for the first time this season as they turned in several first, second and third place finishes in the running events Kalya Grigg tied for third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.66.

Caylah Lunning placed first in the 200 meters(26.52), Arlena Hannah, competing for the first time in the 400 meters, took second with a time of 1:02.03, Megan Roughan turned in the best time in the 800 meters (2:29.70), and Casci Carpenter outpaced her opponents in the 1600 finishing at 5:49.45.

Alysha Overland took first in the 300 hurdles (45.73), and the 4x100 relay team of Keiley Garcia, Grigg, Lunning and Overland placed second with a time of 50.82. The 4x200 relay team of Lunning, Grigg, Overland and Carpenter finished second (1:47.85), and Carpenter, Overland, Hannan and Grigg took first in the 4x400 meters with a time of 4:13.04.

Sadie Nielson placed first in the shot put and the discus with throws of 36-11 and 123-02 feet respectively.

In the high jump event, it was Selina Koon placing second with a jump of 5'. Lunning took first in the long jump (16'10 1/2") and Koon was second with a jump of 15'11 3/4".

Grigg took top honors in the triple jump with a leap of 32'09" and Carpenter finished third (31'8 3/4").

"We were short a few kids who were injured and some girls got hurt at the invite, but they still turned in an outstanding performance," coach Nicki Weiland said. "Each week someone seems to step up. They are working real hard in practice and its really shows up at the meets."

Boys

The boys turned in an outstanding performance as well over the weekend as they placed fourth out of 12 teams with 55 points. Prosser was first with 117, Monroe place second (99) and Kittitas, third with 57 points.

"We had a great showing at this meet," coach Kevin Whittall said. "I felt good with our finish because we had some of our top throwers and jumpers sitting this meet out, so we brought some younger athletes who stepped up and performed really well."

Parker Johnson got things going in the running events for the Chiefs with a second place finish (11.61) in the 100 meter dash. Malcom Ransom finished 8th with a time of 12.01. Ransom took second (23.82) in the 200, and Johnson places fourth in the 400, finishing at 52.95.

In the 800 meter run it was Michael Sherment who finished 6th with a time of 2:07. Alec Schwiesow (2:10) placed ninth. Schwiesow set a personal record as he finished 10th in the mile with a time of 4:48.

Dylan Darlington (10:25)took third in the 3200. In the non-running events, Cameron Law finished third overall in the discus with a throw of 119-08, and second (13') in the pole vault.

The Chiefs head to Eisenhower Thursday for their last regular season meet.

The district tournament takes place in Pasco May 11 and 12.
