Aurora E. Holland, 94

Aurora E. Holland, 94, a lifelong resident of Coeur d’Alene, passed May 1, 2012, in Coeur d’Alene. Aurora was born Nov. 29, 1917, in Coeur d’Alene to Arnold and Hilma (Olsen) Isaacson.

She married Robert D. Holland on July 6, 1935, in Coeur d’Alene. They owned and operated the Holland Motel on east Sherman from 1937-1950 and then the Holland’s Market next to Harding Elementary School on 15th Street for the next 25 years. Aurora considered every kid that entered the market as her own. She knew them by name and was concerned for their welfare. Aurora loved animals and always had an open door heart for one in need of a home.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Homemakers Extension Club, active with Campfire, Scouting, Kootenai County Election Board and the North Idaho Museum in Coeur d’Alene.

Aurora is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Robert D. and Barbara Holland Jr. of Coeur d’Alene; daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Hank Schmidt of Hayden Lake; grandsons, John (wife Kelly) and David (wife Kali) Richards; step-grandchildren, Chris and Jacob (wife Adina) Watkins; great-grandchildren, Colin and Mackenzie Richards; sister Mary Jean Clark of Richland, Wash.; sister-in-law Helen Salisbury Gross of Florida; nieces and nephews, Patrick Clark, Cindy Luerkins, Andy Salisbury, Creggie Henderson, Terry, Danny and Peter Isaacson, and John and Jim Holland.

She was preceded in death by husband, Robert D. Holland Sr. in 1982; sister, Ann Fisher and brother John W. Isaacson; brothers-in-law, Keith Clark, John, Bill and Henry Holland; sisters-in-law Vivian Isaacson, Lois and Ruth Holland; and niece Julie Clark.

A special thanks to the nursing staff of Loyalton Assisted Living, LaCrosse Health and Rehab Center and Hospice of North Idaho for their care and love for Aurora.
