About 130 Flathead Valley Community College students will share their research projects with the public at the college’s third annual Scholars Conference on Student Research on Friday.

The event begins at 12:15 p.m. in the Arts and Technology Building

About 20 students will present their work Friday, with another 100 showcased in research posters.

Project topics cover a range of categories such as biology, natural resources, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, history, psychology, anthropology, nursing, business and computer science.

James McKusick, dean of the Davidson Honors College at The University of Montana, will join Ivan Lorentzen, director of the Scholars Program, and others to kick off the event in the large community meeting room.

Presentations will take place every half hour from 1 to 2:30 p.m. inside the classrooms on the upper level of the building. The research poster exhibitions will be inside the large community meeting room from 2 to 3 p.m. and from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.

The event wraps up at 5 p.m. with a ceremony and reception honoring event award winners and 2012 Scholars graduates plus a special program recognizing the college’s newest emeritus honorees, retired counselor George Shryock and retired Vice President of Instruction Kathy Hughes.
