KALISPELL — Polson had a multitude of wrestlers on the podium at the Montana State Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling Tournament last weekend in Kalispell. Twelve Polson wrestlers competed in the Freestyle competition on Saturday and 10 of the team members competed in Greco- Roman competition on Sunday.

In all, 11 different wrestlers from Polson placed in the tournament, winning six state championships.

Fourth-grader Gator Cheff completed an outstanding season of wrestling by winning both Freestyle and Greco-Roman titles in the Intermediate 65-pound weight class. He also won the State Little Guy Championship in March.

“That was a big deal,” Polson wrestling coach Bob Owen said. “He’s only taken one loss all season.”

Seventh-grader Dillon Brooks also won both competitions at the School Boy 120-pound weight.

High schoolers Carlos Quinones and Dylan Moll traded championships as Carlos defeated Dylan in the championship match for the Freestyle title at 126 pounds., and was second to Moll in the Greco-Roman.

“It’s worth its weight in gold,” Owen said. “It helps your program get better and these kids that wrestle during this time of year really earn the right to win.”

Craig Feistner took third in both the Greco-Roman and Freestyle competitions at the junior 132-pound class while Nick Grogan was third in the 160-pound junior class. Wrestlers that finished in the top six have qualified for the Western Regional Tournament in Pocatello, Idaho in June.

“For kids to go out and do this, it’s really good for the overall program,” Owen said.
