COEUR d'ALENE - A 25-year-old Post Falls woman was sentenced Monday to eight years in prison for grand theft and felony marijuana possession, the Kootenai County prosecutor's office said.

Kasie D. Gordon was sentenced by 1st District Court Judge Lansing Haynes, who ordered that the first two years would be mandatory. She will be eligible for parole during the remainder of her term.

Haynes retained jurisdiction, giving the court an opportunity to review Gordon's conduct within the year to determine whether she is an appropriate candidate for probation.

Gordon admitted that she was a member of a group that committed at least 19 residential burglaries in the Post Falls-Coeur d'Alene-Rathdrum area in 2011.

Gordon admitted to being in possession of stolen property from several of those burglaries.

At the time, Gordon was using methamphetamine and heroin and she attributed her need for those drugs as the reason why she became involved in the thefts.

Her criminal history included a felony conviction for possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver in 2011, and traffic offenses.

She struggled to comply with the terms of her felony probation because of her drug addiction, including committing the offenses for which she was just sentenced.

Kootenai County Prosecutor Barry McHugh said, "Ms. Gordon demonstrated her inability to avoid crimes because of her drug addiction, and she used the proceeds she and others received through the series of home-invasion burglaries."
