HELENA — Flathead and Glacier advanced players to the semifinals in singles  play during Friday’s opening session at the Helena Invitational tennis tournament.

The Glacier boys, led by singles players Kellen Bates, Hunter Blalack and Mario Hernandez, went 6-0 on the day and all are in the semifinals along with Glenn Strickler of Flathead.

Bates, Blalack and Strickler are in the No. 1 bracket.

Hernandez is playing No. 2.

Glacier coach Josh Munro said the Wolfpack’s boys doubles teams went 2-1 “are in the backdraw, but they are all alive.”

For the Glacier girls, Katya Kulikova and Hailey Blalack have advanced to the semifinals at No. 1 singles.

“Really impressed with singles play today,” Munro said.

“Singles all around played great ... doubles fought hard. That was the first time we have seen a lot of these teams.”
