QUINCY - Ephrata tennis continues to chalk up victories as the boys shutout Quincy 5-0, and the girls got by the Jacks 3-2 Tuesday.

Boys

The boys found little resistance from their opponents as they took all five matches over Quincy. The Tigers No. 1 singles Hunter Sears shutout Samuel Gregg 6-0, 6-0 to get things started for Ephrata. Michael Bosnar, the No. 2 singles, turned back Austin Karstetter in two sets 6-1, 6-0.

The Tigers doubles teams kept the momentum rolling as the first doubles Jordan Brzezny and Michael McDonnell beat Sonny Fregoso and Rollie Ronish III 7-5, 6-3. The No. 2 doubles Calvin Callahan and Mauricio Contreras defeated Levi Jimenez and Jacob Durfee in two sets, 6-3, 6-4, and Matt Jones and Stenn Monson turned back Vicente Rodriguez and James Bensch 6-0, 6-2.

"Hunter cruised to a first singles victory," coach Missy Beierman said. "He has really been working hard at fine tuning parts of game."

Girls

The girls got off to a shaky start as both singles dropped their matches.

Bianca Schley lost to Ciara Rasmussen 2-6, 4-6, and Naomi Kooistra was beaten by Sara Rigby in three sets 7-5, 2-6, 6-7 (2-7).

But the doubles teams won all three matches to pull out the win.

The first doubles Tiana Schmitz and Tessa Ratigan beat Ashley Breeden and Katherine Ayala 6-4, 6-2.

Kim Beck and Aubrey Denley, the Tigers second doubles turned back Sara Horining and Antonia Valenzuela in three sets 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, and the third doubles Allison Pheasant and Demi Brekhus got by Crystal Cuevas and Naomi Garcia 6-3, 6-2.

"Bianca lost a tough one to Ciara Rasmussen ... you could really see  Ciara wanted this match," Beierman said.  "The best match of the night came was at second singles.  Naomi lost a third set tie-breaker to Sara Rigby.  The match lasted 2 hours 45 minutes.  They had a lot of deuce games and long rallies.  Naomi came back in two different sets from being down 2-5.  I really liked her tenacity tonight."

The wins over Quincy runs the boys record to 6-2 in CWAC league play and 9-5 overall. The girls improved to 7-1 and 11-3 overall.

Ephrata is back on the courts Saturday when the Tigers host Othello in the last regular season match of the year. District play gets underway May 10 in Selah at 2 p.m., then moves to Ephrata May 12 and 14.
