SPIRIT LAKE - J.D. Page struck out 16 in the first game and Casey Rogstad went 2 for 4 with four RBIs in the second game for the Timberlake Tigers in an 8-1 and 11-3 sweep of the St. Maries Lumberjacks on Saturday at Timberlake High.

With the sweep, Timberlake (12-5, 9-2 IML) clinches the Intermountain League championship for the third straight year and will be the top seed in the 3A District 1 tournament starting Friday in Spirit Lake. The Tigers will face the winner of Tuesday's Bonners Ferry-Kellogg loser-out game at 4 p.m.

"I was pretty proud of those kids today," Timberlake coach Bill Rider said. "They're a good group and we're excited about the season."

Page followed up a 21-strikeout game against St. Maries on April 3.

"Craig (Tefft) and I were joking in between games that they'd had to face him twice and in 15 innings, he had 37 strikeouts," Rider said. "That's pretty dominant and it's pretty tough to beat a kid that strikes out that many kids."

D.J. Turner had a two-run single in the second game for St. Maries (9-9, 8-4), which opens districts against Priest River on Friday.

"St. Maries played their butts off today," Rider said. "But so did my kids. They were just focused today and it was awesome to see."

Moscow defeated Sandpoint (1-13) 8-6 earlier Saturday.

"Evan was hitting his spots really well," Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. "He did a good job of keeping them off balance. I was really proud of our guys. We came out swinging and played excellent defense."

John Galbraith had a two-run single in the third inning for Lakeland.

Kuykendall went 8 for 8 and scored eight runs on the day for Timberlake (11-5, 10-1 IML). Malloy went 5 for 6 and drove in 10 runs. The Tigers totaled 36 hits in the two games.

"It was a cold, windy, miserable day, and they weren't going to get cheated on anything," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. "They went up and got some good hacks. I'm as happy as I can be, especially with prom (later that night) - you never know where their minds are going to be. Nicole threw great, and our hitting was fantastic."
