WHITEFISH — The Bitterroot Red Sox swept an American Legion baseball doubleheader from the Glacier Twins AA on Sunday at Memorial Park.

Bitterroot, despite being outhit 7-6 in the opener, nailed down a 7-3 victory thanks to a four-run second inning.

The Red Sox followed that by slipping by the Twins in the second game 2-0.

“It’s coming around,” Glacier Twins coach Scott Murray said.

“We’re moving ahead.

“We believe in ourselves,” he continued.

“We just have to work a little harder to get it done.”

Murray said Garrett Houston and Bryce Wehrli “threw well in the second game.”

The two combined on a 5-hitter.

Houston fanned four and also walked four. Wehrli had one strikeout.

Murray said the Twins let a golden scoring opportunity slip away in the sixth inning when they left the bases loaded.

“We couldn’t do the little things (today),” he said.

“We paid a price for it.”

Shane Marcial had two hits in four trips to the plate to lead the Twins offensively in the first game. Wehrli doubled in the second outing.

Glacier (0-8) is back in action Saturday with a doubleheader in Helena versus the Senators. Helena swept Glacier in Whitefish 13-0 and 6-4 to open the season on April 28.
