C-Falls students excel at district music festival

Columbia Falls had a great showing at the district music festival at Flathead and Glacier high schools April 12-14.

The event drew students from the host schools as well as Libby, Troy, Eureka, Whitefish, Columbia Falls, Polson and Bigfork.

Qualified music specialists listened to and judged each performance, providing verbal and written comments for each entrant rating them as superior, excellent, good, fair or poor.

Solos and ensembles receiving superior ratings qualified to attend the State Solo and Ensemble Festival in Helena which was May 4-5.

• Superior performance: Symphonic Band

• Excellent performance: Concert Band, Columbia Chorale, Tres Belle, Treble Choir with Troubadours

• Superior sight reading: Tres Belle, Columbia Chorale, Troubadours, Symphonic Band

• Excellent sight reading: Treble Choir, Concert Band,

• Superior jazz band: Columbians

• Excellent jazz band: Jazz Factory

• Superior vocal solo: Matt Erhart, Brooke Wilson, Amanda Morrison, LE McDaniel, Hunter Role, Meredith Stolte, Ada Brooks, Shelby Nash

• Excellent vocal solo: Natalie Law, Shelby Greene, Megan Spencer, Danielle Henderson, Daisyjane Johnson, McKenna Emmerich

• Superior vocal ensembles: Weep No More Quartet (Gabrielle Stenger, LE McDaniel, Shelby Nash and Korren Fehrenbach); The Violet Trio (McKenna Emmerich, Jasmine Goodwin and Micinzie Christopherson)

• Excellent vocal ensemble: Amazing Grace Quartet (Kaitlyn Presnell, Morgan Christianson, Meredith Stolte and Daisyjane Johnson)

• Superior vocal duet: Korren Fehrenbach and Gabrielle Stenger; Micah Sperry and Caylub Moon; Brooke Wilson and Amanda Morrison; Cortney White and Elyse Gordon

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
