In the coming month, Spoelstra Family Chiropractic will be moving forward in implementing an extension program that specifically works with adults and children with developmental and behavioral challenges. We are now a S.H.I.N.E certified facility in the Dr. Ed Hallowell protocol.

Dr. Hallowell is a world renowned expert on ADD/ADHD and was the author of the bestselling book "Driven to Distraction." Dr. Hallowell has partnered with the chiropractic community to help create an integrated approach to sensory integration challenges which often carry the diagnosis of ADD, ADHD, or have patterns of being impulsive, hyperactive, inattentive or exhibit an unexplained lack of productivity.

This drug-less, integrated approach brings together three proven techniques which have all shown to be highly effective for the treatment of ADD and ADHD. Those techniques are chiropractic, neurological integrated movements and nutrition. Alone, all three of these techniques have made huge strides in the successful treatment of ADD, ADHD, and other sensory integration challenges. Within the new extension program, we will be offering all of these three techniques together in one place. Coeur d'Alene and the surrounding area will be one of the only places in the world that such a program exists.

The extension program takes a strength based approach to the treatment of sensory integration challenges. We do not view the brain as "deficient" for those suffering from these issues; only different. There is no denying that some of the most influential and creative people throughout history were and are labeled with terms like ADD and ADHD. Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Beethoven, Henry Ford, Jim Carey, Bill Cosby, Will Smith, Elvis Presley, Justin Timberlake, Ansel Adams, John F. Kennedy, General George Patton, Sir Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, and the list goes on and on.

Looking at the names above, it's hard to believe that someone with ADD or ADHD could be described as "deficient." It is obvious that there is more to the story.

Our program looks to unmask the way people use their brains, how their body functions, how their diet can influence their capabilities, and expose the potential in each and every person with a simple, integrated approach. We have expanded our current office and we are looking to kick off this program with an orientation meeting on May 15, 2012. This meeting will provide you with all of the information you need to know to decide if the program is right for you or your child.

Space will be limited for the initial orientation meeting, but a new meeting will be held every two weeks on Tuesday nights so parents and individuals can find out more about our extension program. If you would like to learn more about this program or sign up for the meeting, please give us a call at (208) 667-7434.

Focus on ADD/ADHD

You have been seeing the terms ADD and ADHD very often in our recent articles. This is due to the fact that our Focus program is now in full swing and we have begun helping children and adults in managing their sensory integration issues such as ADD/ADHD or patterns of being impulsive, hyperactive, inattentive or exhibit an unexplained lack of productivity.

Chiropractic goes beyond pain

Our bodies are amazing. Think about that statement. As you do, also think about the fact that you probably took a breath, blinked your eyes, moved a limb, moved your head, focused your eyes, digested food, healed a cut, wiggled a toe, salivated and a million other internal operations. Although you were not readily thinking about all of these processes, they were going on without the need for your input. Your brain, while also supplying you with conscious thought, is simultaneously orchestrating a laundry list of functions to keep you alive and well.

How's your resolution going?

As March moves in, the steadfast determination of many people to continue carrying out their New Year's resolutions is no doubt starting to fade. If you are still holding strong to the things you have changed in your life, bravo! If not, well, there's always next year, right?
