HOLMES: For open government

I like so many others, tend to follow political candidate endorsements largely because I feel those behind the various organizations tend to keep a close watch over the various candidates and can judge the best candidate for the position.

And, now just recently, I read where the Kootenai County Reagan Republican organization is endorsing ... wait a minute, just who are they? From the news account, I learned this group never filed with the Idaho Secretary of State, and thus are not a recognized political group. Their endorsements come from a non-existent group of political activists — at least non-existent in the eyes of the Secretary of State.

So ... I had occasion to log onto the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Association’s web site (www.kcsda.net), knowing they represent a powerful, well-founded organization — just to read who they endorse. One of them is my hometown mayor, Vic Holmes, their choice for Kootenai County Commissioner from District 3. If he’s their candidate, he’s mine as well! They write, “We found it necessary to seek, out and endorse (a) candidate committed to open and transparent government, (one) who possesses positive and effective leadership qualities and a high level of integrity.”

Therefore, my family chooses to endorse Vic Holmes for District 3 Kootenai County Commissioner.
