EUREKA — The regular season may be winding down, but the Ronan Maidens continue to rack up wins on the softball diamond as they get ready for next week’s divisional tournament.

On the road Tuesday, May 1, the Maidens got two solid pitching performances from the Colman sisters as they swept Eureka 5-2 and 11-0.

On the road Tuesday, May 1, the Maidens got two solid pitching performances from the Colman sisters as they swept Eureka 5-2 and 11-0.

“They do well when they’re throwing strikes and hitting their spots,” head coach Tom Peterson said. “It’s always nice when your pitcher gets ahead.”

In the opener, it was the older sister, Bethany, who took the mound and scattered seven hits and two runs in seven innings to earn the win. Jasmine Bocksnick went 3-3 with a trio of doubles and five other players added hits for the Maidens. Leading 1-0 heading to the top of the fifth, Ronan broke out of their mini-slump by scoring twice and backed that up with two more in the top of the sixth to take a 5-0 lead.

“We weren’t hitting the ball well early,” Peterson said. “It took us awhile to adjust to the speed of their pitcher. Toward the end of the first game, we started to get it going and we kept it going into game two.”

Eureka got two back in the bottom half of the inning, but wouldn’t get any closer.

In game two, the Maidens wasted little time staking the younger Colman sister, Samantha, to a lead. Up 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Ronan went off, scoring three in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth, putting the mercy rule into effect with an 11-0 shutout win.

“It’s good for Sam to get varsity experience as a freshman,” Peterson said.

Again, Bocksnick led the offensive charge, racking up three more hits to go 6-6 on the day, while Ashleigh Lynch also had three hits.

“She was hitting and putting balls in play,” Peterson said of Bocksnick. “She’s very consistent, is a hard worker and does all the right things.”

Bocksnick and Payge DeLaurenti each had a double among Ronan’s 11 hits while Bocksnick knocked in two and Lynch and Kenzie Dulmes each contributed an RBI. Ronan took advantage of six Eureka errors in addition to their hit output.

On the mound, Colman limited Eureka to just four hits while earning the win.

The Maidens faced Drummond on Tuesday, May 8, but results were unavailable at press time. They’ll also travel to Deer Lodge on Thursday, May 10 before hosting Troy on Saturday, May 12 to wrap up the regular season.

Looking ahead to those games, Peterson is hoping his team can string together a high level of effort and performance to give it the best chance to earn more wins.

“We’re just looking for more consistency from game to game in all areas, whether it’s our hitting, defense, attitude or performance,” Peterson said.
