FWP seeks comment on Ninepipe enhancement

CHARLO — Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP), Region One, is seeking public comment for a proposed action involving agricultural activities being performed by a private operator to supplement agency activities aimed at improving food and cover managed as wildlife habitat at the Ninepipe Wildlife Management Area in Lake County.
The draft environmental assessment (EA) is out for a two-week public review through May 17, 2012. Copies of the draft are available at the FWP office, 490 N. Meridian Rd., Kalispell; Montana State Library, 1515 E 6th Ave., Helena; Polson City Library, 2 First Ave. E, Polson; and the FWP website at fwp.mt.gov under “Public Notices.”

Don't let your pet chase wildlife
LAKE COUNTY — Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks would like to remind pet owners to secure their animals, especially in areas where wildlife might be present. Dogs in particular can cause serious injury or kill animals much larger than themselves. The stress of a chase alone can eventually lead to the death of an animal.
Deer, elk harvests finish behind last year
NORTHWEST, MONT. — Whitetail deer harvest picked up during the last two weekends of the deer and elk hunting season but still finished behind last year’s totals.
Deadline for mountain lion hunters is Aug. 31
LAKE COUNTY — The deadline is Aug. 31 to purchase a mountain lion hunting license for the general season, or to apply for the special limited-entry license drawing.
